Legacy send classification 

Follow these steps to create reusable send classifications that will determine these important elements for your emails:

• “From” and “reply to” name and email addresses
• Header and footer settings
• CAN-SPAM delivery type

Your send classifications will consist of a sender profile, delivery profile, and a commercial or transactional CAN-SPAM classification. A sender profile is a stored record containing the “from” and “reply to” email addresses, while a delivery profile is a record that specifies the email header and footer configuration. Both are housed in the Admin tab within Email Studio.

Once a send classification is made, it can be reused for other email sends. Business units can create and use multiple send classifications.

 Make sure you name your send classifications so you can easily identify them when you go to send your emails.

How to create a sender profile

Before creating a sender profile, make sure your department has a group email account. The “from” email address must be a group email account, but the “reply to” address may be a personal email address. 

Instructions

1. Log in to Marketing Cloud and select the correct business unit, if you have access to more than one business unit.

2. Navigate to EmailStudio within Marketing Cloud.

3. Click the Admin tab in the top toolbar.

4. On the left-hand side under Send Management, select Sender Profiles.
5. Click Create in the toolbar above the list area for sender profiles.

6. Enter a short name for the sender profile. Note: This is not the From name that will appear in the email.  This name will help you find and select the profile later in the process.
7. Leave External Key blank. Marketing Cloud will generate an external key when the sender profile is saved.
8. Type an optional description.

9. Under Sender Information, select the button to “Use the specified information.”
10. Type the From name and email address that will appear in the email. The email address must be a group email address. Note: If problems occur when saving, the From email and name combination may already be available from the “Choose from list” drop-down menu just above. If so, select from that drop-down menu.
11. If using a non-IU email domain (@iu.edu, @indiana.edu, and @iupui.edu are examples of IU email domains that will automatically verify) click Verify. Salesforce will send an email to the email address you’ve included. Follow all steps listed in the email to complete verification.

12. Under Custom Reply Mail Management Settings, check the box for “Use custom settings below.” These settings specify the name and email address that will appear when a constituent replies to the email.
13. Select “Use specified information.”
14. Type the “Name” and email “Address” to display when a constituent responds to the original message. This email address can be a group email address or personal email address.

Note: the email address you use for replies will receive emails from anyone who replies to your email directly. Make sure you think through the implications, and that the replies are going to the right place.

15. Click Save in the toolbar.

How to create a Delivery Profile

1. On the left-hand side under Send Management, select Delivery Profiles.
2. Click Create in the toolbar above the list area for delivery profiles.

3. Enter a short name for the delivery profile. This is not thename that will appear in the email.  This name will help you find and select the profile later in the process.
4. Leave External Key blank. Marketing Cloud will generate an external key when the delivery profile is saved.
5. Type an optional description.
6. Under Delivery Information, leave the IP address as Account Default.
7. For the Header, choose none.
8. For the Footer, select none.
9. You can leave SMIME unchecked as it’s not required for Salesforce Marketing Cloud sends. For added security, you can add a digital signature for your from email.
10. Click Save in the toolbar.

How to create a Send Classification

1. On the left-hand side under Send Management, select Send Classifications.
2. Select Create.

3. Enter a short name for the send classification. This is not thename that will appear in the email.  This name will help you find and select the profile later in the process.
4. Leave External Key blank. Marketing Cloud will generate an external key when the send classification is saved.
5. Type an optional description. 
6. Under About CAN-SPAM Classification, select Commerical or Transactional. 
   • Choose Commercial if you are allowing recipients to unsubscribe. Most messages fit into this category at IU. Examples include newsletters, optional event invites, athletic ticket sales, scholarships, etc.
   • Choose Transactional if the message needs to be sent regardless of if a constituent has unsubscribed. This should only be used for messages necessary to the constituent’s relationship with IU including compliance messages, employee tax information, bursar payment confirmation, etc. Leave the “Honors source and publication list level opt outs” unchecked.

7. Under Sender Information, select the sender profile and the delivery profile from the drop-down menus.
8. Ensure Send Priority is always set to Normal.

9. Click Save.
